Approach and Outcomes

As existing modelling was not available, WMS developed a new TUFLOW direct rainfall model. Modelling showed the site and service road were immune to flooding in a 0.2% AEP event. As the model was not calibrated sensitivity testing was undertaken on key model parameters. The site and service road were still shown to have the same immunity.

The Challenge

Public Safety Business Agency (PSBA) wished to identify suitable locations for new support facilities for emergency services in the central Gold Coast region. A particular site of interest was identified at Newheath Drive, Arundel. However, information on the site’s flood immunity (and therefore operability in an emergency event) was required. Advice was also sought on the likely stormwater management requirements for the site.
