Approach and Outcomes

The analysis was based on existing hydrologic and hydraulic models representing the existing and proposed ultimate states of development for BAC. The primary outcome of the project was the assessment of the effectiveness of the three proposed mitigation options with recommendations made on the preferred option. This option is in line with BAC’s ultimate development plans and does not constitute extra capital cost in the long term.

The Challenge

Brisbane Airport Corporation have identified that there is standing water in a number of drainage channels in the Export Park 3 (EP3) area. This water is varying in depth and encouraging the growth of a significant amount of reeds/vegetation, which provides habitat for birds and contributes significantly to debris load in the channels during storm events. WMS were engaged as contractors by Aurecon to identify and assess the feasibility of three potential mitigation options to reduce ponding or the impacts of ponding in the drainage channels.
