Approach and Outcomes

The total area modelled and mapped was 20 km2 utilising a single direct rainfall TUFLOW hydraulic model. A two day site visit and field reconnaissance was carried out to ensure that the available information was representative of the conditions on the ground. The TUFLOW model included all pit and pipe stormwater infrastructure. A total of 20 maps were produced in ArcGIS including mapping of the peak asset flow rate and filtered overland flood extents.

The Challenge

The township of Oakey in Queensland is generally very flat and the standard of drainage infrastructure has varied over time. The challenge was to define the location and extent of overland flow paths and to ensure that the model developed would be suitable for use by Council to test improvement options in the future.
