Most Aussie native fish are “weak swimming” compared to their overseas counterparts. For vertical slot fish passages, high velocities or poorly design flow paths can drastically reduce migrating fish quantities.
Kyle Thomson will be presenting at IPEWAQ (Cairns) in October the use of CFD modelling (with FLOW3D) for fish passage design, optimisation and rehabilitation of constructed passages. He’ll also be touching on water rights and how CFD can reduce hydraulic design uncertainty.
Special shout out to Steven Slarke for flow guiding structure suggestions to aid with rehabilitation.
