Our Melbourne team gathered in the office yesterday for a lunch to celebrate #NAIDOC week. The theme for NAIDOC this year is Heal Country! – which calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
The team spent some time exploring who the traditional Indigenous owners are in the area they live or were born in. Interestingly, we learnt that the WMS office in Docklands is located right on the border of the Bunurong and Wurundjeri people, as in that area the boundary follows the former course of the Yarra River. The team also spent time reflecting and brain-storming on how we can better acknowledge and engage with First Nations people in the work that we do.
